Cyberoam has introduced us to an entirely new era in network security. It effectively resolves all our security issues

Mr. Edmundo Tapia Ballesteros
Chief of IT Department

Internet is one of their most important resources. “Our daily business transactions and activities are very much dependent on the Internet”, said Mr. Edmundo Tapia Ballesteros, Chief of IT Department at Metrocolor. For a secure and continuous Internet connection,

they needed to deal with the following issues:

Protection Required for Published Servers

Edmundo wanted to ensure complete data security of their servers published online. Since these servers are open to the public, they are exposed to various prevalent cyber threats like DoS attacks and IP Spoofing. Furthermore, he wanted to minimize the chances of outsiders gaining visibility of internal network resources through Phishing, Pharming, hacking or remote exploits. Hence, he required a complete security solution that would safeguard their servers against all the mentioned threats.

Virus and Spyware Contamination

The threat of malware attacks from viruses, worms, Trojans, etc. kept the Metrocolor IT team on their toes. These attacks could culminate into corrupt files, defaced web pages, PDFs and other documents, loss of critical data and system crashes resulting in huge downtime. Any such kind of an attack would cost Metrocolor money, effort, man-hours and, in some cases, even their reputation.

Undue Advantage of Internet

Metrocolor did not impose restrictions over Internet Usage of employees. Unfortunately, such freedom was more often than not abused by the employees. They spent more time on unproductive surfing than any useful work. “For all that I know, they would be loitering on Facebook, rather than researching or doing their work!” mused Edmundo. This had an adverse impact on the company’s productivity.

The Cyberoam Solution

After searching the market for a suitable security solution, Edmundo decided to trust Cyberoam with their network. They purchased One (1) CR 200i and deployed it in Gateway Mode at their Head Office in Lima, Peru. After deploying Cyberoam, they noticed the following benefits.

  • Entire Network Perimeter Safeguarded

Cyberoam’s ICSA and Checkmark certified firewall provides granular access controls over Internet traffic and the network resources. This helps to determine if a data packet should be permitted or discarded through the firewall to the internal LAN. Metrocolor’s Published Servers are well guarded by Cyberoam’s well-armoured firewall that combats against any external anomalies that threatens to cause trouble within.

  • Identity Based Security

Identity forms the basis upon which security policies in Cyberoam are defined. This identity-based security protects against insider threats by giving full visibility of user activities in the network. It is like monitoring exactly “Who is Doing What”. Edmundo integrated Cyberoam with their Microsoft LDAP Server to take full advantage of Cyberoam’s identity-based security. Now, he is able to keep a close watch on each user’s activities in the network which enables him to make informed decisions about what security policies to implement.

  • Network Traffic Purified

Cyberoam’s Gateway Anti-Virus & Anti-Spyware solution secures the Metrocolor network by providing real-time protection against viruses, worms, Trojans, keyloggers, spyware and more on all web (HTTP, FTP) and mail (SMTP, POP, IMAP) traffic.

  • Internet Usage Bridled

Cyberoam’s 82+ categories tough Web and Application Filtering technology made it easy for Edmundo to reign in unbridled surfing and downloading over the Internet. Cyberoam blocks inappropriate and unsafe Web content, including phishing and other malware-laden sites. This is done through a constantly updated database of millions of websites. Edmundo applied policies on users according to their work. He allowed access only to those sites and applications that were necessary and blocked all the rest. “Now our employees do not surf Internet inappropriately, hence they are more productive”, Edmundo said.

  • To Conclude

“Cyberoam has introduced us to an entirely new era in network security. It effectively resolves all our security issues,” Edmundo said.
