Cyberoam UTM – Provides Right High Availability to Lydec
About Lydec, Civil Services

In 1997, LYDEC, a subsidiary of GDF SUEZ, took charge of the management contract for the provision of electricity, water and sanitation services for the Greater Casablanca region in Morocco. It is a utility that manages the distribution of water and electricity, sewage collection and storm water and street lighting to 5 million inhabitants of the Greater Casablanca (Morocco). Their goal is to provide continuous quality service to the customers, while anticipating and accompanying the development of the town.

In this era of technology, Internet is a prime requirement for every organization. Similarly, even Lydec depended on Internet for uninterrupted connectivity, research, surfing and communication purposes.

On and off our network went down, due to which our business was being affected tremendously. We were often disconnected from either our customers or our own people.

Mr. Rachid Nefsi
IT Manager

Mr. Rachid Nefsi, the IT Manager of Lydec said, “On and off our network went down, due to which our business was being affected tremendously. We were often disconnected from either our customers or our own people.”

Lydec faced issues related to:

Unstable Network

One of the biggest challenges faced by Lydec was to ensure constant availability of their organization’s network and data. They faced frequent network issues due to which their business suffered. Mr. Rachid said, “Constant unstable network was a matter of concern for us”.

User Integration

Mr. Rachid wanted to create policies for individual employees so that he can keep a track of what is going on in the network and control the employee behaviour. He said, “Lack of identity based policies made it difficult for us to know the employee trend”.

The Cyberoam Solution

Lydec searched a solution that could meet their industry requirements. They looked into many solutions including WatchGuard. Then after having a demo, required no double thoughts and purchased six (6) CR 200i appliances. They deployed all the appliances at Casablanca in Gateway Mode.

After installing Cyberoam Mr. Rachid noticed the following benefits:

  • Stable Network

Cyberoam offers an integrated High Availability solution to minimize the single point of failure, providing efficient, continuous access to critical applications, information, and services. High Availability is critical to maintaining network protection from an attack, even in the event of a device failure. Hence the network is always up.

Mr. Rashid said, “Cyberoam’s High Availability feature assures continuous network connectivity, increasing our efficiency”.

  • User Integration

Cyberoam UTM with a unique identity-based security solution protects against insider threats by giving absolute visibility into “Who is doing What” in the network. Mr. Rachid used Cyberoam’s Active Directory (AD) facility to include the Lydec users in the network. This feature greatly helps him to create policies for controlling the activities based on identity of the users rather than IP Addresses. Thus it helps him to know what is going on in the network.

Mr. Rachid said, “Cyberoam’s identity-based security is one the best features which helps us to control all our users very easily”.

  • Secured Perimeter

With the database of 4000+ IPS signatures Cyberoam’s Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) solution automatically detects, blocks and drops the suspicious HTTP, SMTP, POP3, FTP, IMAP, P2P and IM traffic ensuring secured network. It also provides signature updating facility that updates the signatures regularly and provides zero-hour protection against latest network attacks.

Mr. Rachid said, “I am now assured that no external resources or threats can march into the network through Cyberoam”.

  • To Wind Up

Mr. Rashid said, “Cyberoam is a good product and has helped us to receive return on investment. I would recommend it to all in search of a good network security solution”.
