East African Community deploys Cyberoam for effortless Bandwidth Management

The East African Community (EAC) is a regional intergovernmental organisation of the Republics of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, the United Republic of Tanzania, and the Republic of Uganda, with its headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania. The EAC started its operations in 1996 with original three Partner States – Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The EAC aims at widening and deepening Economic, Political, Social and Culture integration in order to improve the quality of life of the people of East Africa.

Highlighting the need for continuous Internet Access, Mr. Emilius Sasiyo, the IT Assistant at EAC said, "70% of EAC processes are automated. We needed a solution that could provide Continuous Internet Access and enable us to manage Bandwidth allocation".

Bandwidth Management Issue

Employees at EAC needed the Internet for work-related purposes such as emails, Video/Audio Conferencing. Moreover, it was essential that bandwidth is not used up in unproductive activities like social networking. Clearly, proper bandwidth allocation was a key priority for EAC. Emilius said, "We wanted that bandwidth is allocated judiciously among all the employees and at the same time, ensure that it is utilized at its maximum."

Need for Uninterrupted Internet Access

Emilius said, "At EAC, 70% of the processes are automated which requires continuous Internet Access". It was essential that the Internet is up all the time to ensure the smooth running of business processes.

The Cyberoam Solution

Emilius was looking for a security solution that could best solve the above mentioned issues. After a thorough market research, he decided to deploy Cyberoam in the organization, as it was the only solution in the market with Layer 8 aware security architecture. They purchased One (1) CR1500ia and One (1) CR500ia. They deployed CR1500ia in Gateway Mode at their Head Office.

    Cyberoam provides identity-based as well as group-based bandwidth allocation over web and application usage. Meaning, it is possible to create QoS policies based on a particular user or his designation, as well as the group to which a user belongs. Emilius said, "Cyberoam's Bandwidth management is effortless and we are now able to allocate bandwidth based on users - which suffices our requirement".

    Cyberoam's Multilink manager load balances the network traffic between Two (2) ISP links, which ensures maximum network uptime, which in turn increases the overall productivity of the employees. In case of a failover, the traffic is automatically redirected to the other ISP link, which leads to round the clock connectivity.

  • Seamless Active Directory Integration

    Cyberoam integrates smoothly with Active Directory enabling employees to access internet easily after logging on.

  • Effective Web Filtering

    Cyberoam's Web database includes more than 100 million sites that are categorized into more than 89 categories. Also, custom categories can be added, thus providing extensive control over the Internet Usage.

    Moreover, Cyberoam enables to create identitybased web filter policies which successfully blocks harmful and unproductive websites.
