Banz Group, Bahrain, Middle East
Cyberoam Deal‘s with Internet Security Challenge for Banz Group
About Banz Group, Logistics & Supply Chain

The BANZ Group started operations in the Kingdom of Bahrain as a privately owned shareholding company. Conceptually envisaged to be a privately operated project, the company has grown and diversified to cater to the ever growing needs and demands across all sectors.

BANZ commenced its operation offering the most technologically advanced temperature controlled storage facilities in the Middle East. The BANZ facility includes Bahrain customs bonded (free zone) warehouse, temperature controlled storage facilities and logistic services that facilitate and expedite the efficient and speedy movement of cargo in and out of the country. Bahrain‘s geographically strategic position in the Gulf and the storage capability of BANZ ally together to create a secure base for fast and efficient distribution service throughout the Middle East.

In pursuit of its vision to further enhance its position as the leader in cold storage services, the company grew and expanded its operations.

The network covered sensitive information which was under constant threat from spyware and DoS attacks. So they needed a strong Firewall and IPS solution.

Mr. Sunil Chombala
Network Administrator
Banz Group

According to Mr Sunil Chombala, the Network Administrator at Banz Group, the company was facing the following security and connectivity challenges related to its business activities.

Basic Perimeter Protection & IPS

The company was looking for a gateway firewall to control Internet traffic and prevent unauthorized access to its sensitive internal resources. DoS attacks were also on the rise. It stopped all genuine activity for days thus depriving employee access to legitimate sites. Therefore, they needed a strong IPS solution which would be capable in retorting these threats.

Reducing Malware and Spam prevalence

Banz Group had no security solution in place. This presented the company with all the normal problems associated with business life, such as viruses resulting in computer network down time; spam taking up necessary network bandwidth and more importantly, undesirable pornographic content directly targeting employees‘ inboxes. Thus they needed to protect its employees from undesirable content. They decided to tackle the issue on by implementing an effective anti-virus and anti-spam solution that detects and removes spam and viruses before they reach the company‘s network thus preventing illegitimate emails ever reaching the inbox.

VPN Connectivity

Banz Group has evolved into an organization with independent networks at remote sites supporting many users. The primary challenges for Banz Group were to provide access to sensitive data across a more secure and stable VPN. Internet is relied on profoundly to allow remote sites VPN access back to the main office.

The Cyberoam Solution

After scouring the market for the correct solution, Banz Group purchased a Cyberoam CR50ia UTM appliance which was deployed in gateway mode at their head office.

User Integration

Cyberoam UTM adds up with a unique identity-based security solution which protects against insider threats by giving absolute visibility into “Who is doing What” in the network and allows creation of user identity-based policies. Mr. Chombala used Cyberoam‘s Active Directory (AD) facility to achieve the task of integrating Banz Group users in the network through a wizard to trade in users. This ensures only employees are allowed network access, and outsiders are kept at bay.

Firewall Protection

ICSA and Checkmark - dual certified Cyberoam‘s stateful inspection firewall now cordons off Banz Group‘s network against any unauthorized access. Banz Group users are given controlled access to network and internet resources, ensuring that no security loopholes are left open.

Mr. Chombala used default IPS policies from the firewall rule to protect the network from DoS and spoofing attacks and other exploits. He also used IPS to protect their network and other confidential data from intrusion attempts.

With a comprehensive database of 3000+ IPS signatures, Mr. Chombala now feels that the organizations data is well protected from several variants of spyware attacks, spoofing and DoS attacks in addition to key-loggers, Trojans and more. Cyberoam‘s hardnosed promise to security and protection helped them perk up their network competence and performance.

Solving the Spam and Malware Concern

Cyberoam‘s Check Mark Certified anti-virus solution scans the Web surfing (HTTP, HTTPS, FTP) and mail traffic (SMTP, IMAP, POP3) to ensure that no malware sneaked in. All FTP transactions are also scanned for total security.

Check Mark certified anti-spam solution ensures that not a single mail made it to the internal inboxes. The spam is neutralized at the gateway. Continuous spam protection was installed and had instantaneous effect.

Also, the intelligent anti-spam solution required almost no human intervention to put it on war footing. Signature-less Virus Outbreak Detection technology protects the organization against any mail-based Zero-Day attack, hours before traditional signature-dependent solutions.

Virtual Private Network Connectivity

Cyberoam‘s IPSec VPN solution bridged the geographical distances between the organization‘s branch and head offices. This now ensures that the user can connect securely from any location and use the organization‘s resources. Highly encrypted traffic enforced security over the Internet and ensures that no malware sneaks through.

"Cyberoam UTM is comprehensive. It not only boosts connectivity and productivity, but it also prevents significant Internet bandwidth wastage,” says Mr. Chombala.”
