“70% of our business is carried out over the Net.”

“70% of our business is carried out over the Net”, said Mr. Essam Abdel Aziz, IT Consultant at ASW. As a result, constant and hassle-free connectivity to the Internet is a must for them. According to him, they suffered from the following Internet Security issues.

Protection against Potential Cyber Threats

Mr. Aziz wanted to ensure that the ASW network is closed to all kinds of cyber threats, with no security loopholes. Since their network was Internet-facing, it was susceptible to fall prey to the myriad of threats that do the rounds over the Internet. These threats tend to be an inevitable part of exposure to the Internet. Hence, Mr. Aziz wanted to keep all the defences around the network up.

Unmonitored Web Surfing

In the absence of any restrictions upon Internet usage, employees surfed non-work-related, unproductive sites which had an adverse effect upon employee productivity. They spent much time on social networking and gaming sites which could have otherwise been used in a productive way. “Even if they spent a fraction of the time that they spend on facebook on some quality work, their productivity would increase in leaps and bounds”, said Mr. Aziz.

The Cyberoam Solution

After scrutinizing various network security solutions, including FortiGate, Mr. Aziz zeroed in on Cyberoam, saying that it fulfils all his requirements and more. They purchased One (1) CR100ia and deployed it in Gateway Mode at their Data Center.

After deployment, they notice the following benefits.

  • Network Safeguarded Against Cyber Threats

Cyberoam’s ICSA and Checkmark certified firewall provides granular access controls over Internet traffic and the network resources. This helps to determine if a data packet should be permitted or discarded through the firewall to the internal LAN. The Intrusion Prevention module provides a second line of defence. With a comprehensive database of 4000+ IPS signatures, Cyberoam’s IPS counters several variants of spyware attacks, spoofing and DoS attacks in addition to keyloggers, Trojans and more, diligently protecting the ASW network.

  • Web Surfing Monitored and Controlled

Cyberoam UTM’s Web and Application Filtering feature controls Internet access in ASW by blocking inappropriate and unsafe Web content, including phishing and other malware-laden sites, and by stopping unauthorized surfing by employees. “We have created policies for Web and Application Filter and assigned Surfing Quotas based on our organization’s requirements. The default polices themselves are quite comprehensive, but the fact that those polices can be customized to our needs is simply great”, said Mr. Aziz.

  • Efficient Business Continuity Maintained

Cyberoam’s VPN facilitates secured remote access of network resources by the employees even when they are not in the premises. Secure connectivity to the local network from any remote location facilitates flexible working. Highly encrypted traffic enforces security over the Internet and ensures that no malware sneaks through.

Cyberoam’s Automatic Link Failover feature helps in upholding business continuity in ASW even in the face of an Internet-link outage. In case of failure of any one link, Cyberoam automatically redirects Internet traffic through the other working link without manual intervention. Also, Cyberoam enables Load Balancing of all Internet traffic between ASW’s 2 Internet links.

  • To Conclude

“Cyberoam has been able to fulfil all our expectations and more”, said Mr. Aziz.
